Phil joined the practice to work with his father, having qualified from Guy’s Dental Hospital in 1988, and has worked here happily ever since. Phil has developed the cosmetic and preventative side of the practice, overseeing the introduction of hygienists and gum care, endodontists and the implant centre to the team. At Sparklysmile we like to keep abreast of the technological advances being made in dentistry. Phil introduced the intra-oral cameras, the air abrasion and the Wy10 whitening procedures to the practice together with the Smile Lift techniques which he learnt at the Rosenthal Institute in New York aided the teaching programme when it is was held in the UK. Phil is the most experienced member of the Facial Rejuvenation team and is the practice’s IT person.
More recently, Phil has been to Florida to train at the Dawson Academy, whose aims are to train dentists to provide long-lasting solutions to dental problems with a particular emphasis on the problems in the way the teeth meet and the jaw works. The latest developments in the orthodontic world have also been embraced with the use of fast-acting removable braces such as the inman aligner and the cosmetically shaded fixed braces to ensure that when changes are considered we are as kind to the teeth as possible – moving them in to a better position before making them look good. And in 2016 Phil completed his advanced training with the IAS (Intelligent Alignment Systems) academy in orthodontics under the care of Professor Ross Hobson.
Phil has been an elected representative for local dentists on the Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark Local Dental Committee, the Metropolitan Branch of the British Dental Association and the London Council of the British Dental Association and helped set up the South Thames Branch of the Independent Practice Committee. Over the years, Phil has also written for a selection of dental journals. Phil believes a true Sparklysmile is so much more than cosmetic. It emanates from the confidence and comfort of having healthy teeth and gums that are as well-cared for as they can possibly be. Living locally in Blackheath most of his life, means help is always close at hand, should you be experiencing problems. 2018 saw Phil having lived in Blackheath for 50 years and worked as a dentist here for 30 years.
Sparklysmile are proud to welcome Iain Soulsby to the team in their 50th year.
Iain has lived in Blackheath for the past 18 years. He lives with his wife Sarah and two daughters, Emily and Charlotte who are at school in Blackheath.
Iain is a keen runner, and has completed multiple half marathons. Sparklysmile’s owner, Phil Eisenberg has known Iain for a number of years, having attended courses together over the last couple of decades. Phil (on his bike) managed to catch up with him during one of his Thameside path runs and persuaded him to come and join the practice.
After graduating from Guys Hospital in 2000 Iain has worked in general dental practices in the area and is very experienced in helping adults and children look after their teeth. Iain has spoken in local schools to a number of different age groups about dentistry and at teaching hospitals regarding mouth care for patients suffering other medical complaints. He is very much looking forward to getting to know everyone in the area more.
Iain has a BSc in psychology focusing on the causes and treatment of dental phobia and so if you have any hesitation or worries about going to the dentist, then he knows that going at your own pace and having all your questions answered is key to getting the help that you need in a comfortable and relaxed manner. It can be incredibly rewarding to work together to overcome anxiety towards dental care and become more relaxed in the dental environment.
Iain has also studied at the renowned Dawson Institute in Florida which means that in addition to everyday dental questions, he can help with queries you may have with an uncomfortable bite, aching jaw joints, tooth wear and pain in the muscles of the head and neck. There can be a number of ways to resolve these problems, but the journey starts with diagnosing where the problem lies. More recently he has trained in the use of Cerezen, which is a complimentary approach to treating bite and joint problems using small devices that are placed discreetly in your ear. Strange as it may seem, they can reduce jaw pains and make life changing improvements for some people. If you suffer from headaches, muscle tension or joint pain then do mention this at your next appointment and Iain will be glad to see what can be done to help.
Firstly, Sparklysmile’s team are all about looking after your teeth the best way they can, but once you’ve got healthy, happy teeth, they also have the latest cosmetic technology and talent to bring on a true Sparklysmile. If you are thinking about changing the way that your teeth look then Iain is also able to use clear aligners (Invisalign) that can invisibly straighten your smile.
Iain is looking forward to meeting you at Sparklysmile and finding out how he can help you.
