Granted, we call ourselves Sparklysmile because we know a beautiful beam not only makes you look and feel better, but encourages you to face the world with a more confident and pleasing disposition.
But, as progressive, dedicated 21st Century dentists, we know that beneath your pearly white smile there might be an underlying problem – gum disease. Relax, it’s not necessarily a ‘shock-horror’ scenario, as in the case of gingivitis which, with a good oral hygiene regime can be reversed by our team – so it’s every good reason to come and see us for a check-up soon.
That’s why Sparklysmile’s ‘Make chums with your gums’ initiative has been launched to help people understand how this invidious condition can creep up on you.
Gum disease is often painless, caused by the action of bacteria accumulating in plaque that collects around teeth.
It’s only evident when your teeth become loose and sore. Early signs of gum disease are swollen and or bleeding gums and sometimes a bad taste in the mouth. Other things we look for are spaces beginning to appear between teeth, loose teeth, receding gums and a history of aching or abscesses.
There are two main types of gum disease – Gingivitis and Periodontitis . The first is treatable, but the second is irreversible. However, we at Sparklysmile do our utmost to stabilise the latter condition and prevent it from worsening.
Our hygienist team, Bernadette and Esther, who’ve been with us for more than a decade, are our secret weapons. Both benefit from training brought in especially from the USA.
We also have Lydia Pink at the practice – a dentist with a special interest in gums who has completed a certificated course in Periodontology.
The whole team also enjoys one-to-one specialist training at the practice with periodic visits from an expert periodontist .
At Sparklysmile, when you ‘Make chums with your gums’, you can rest assured we possess all the necessary experience to cope with almost any gum problem in-house, always ensuring the treatment is as patient-friendly as can possibly be. Come and see us soon.
